4x4 Off-Road Tour in the Tangier Mountains

A 4×4 off-road adventure through the mountains behind Tangier, driven in a Suzuki Jimny built for the terrain. Choose a half-day version with a BBQ lunch cooked in nature, or a full-day version that adds a traditional lunch in the Moulay Abdeslam region and a stop in the Bouhachem Natural Area, one of northern Morocco’s most untouched landscapes.

About This 4x4 Off-Road Tour in the Tangier

Most visitors see Tangier’s mountains from a coach window on the way to Chefchaouen. This tour goes the other direction into the rural tracks and forest paths behind the city that a regular vehicle simply can’t reach, driven in a Suzuki Jimny built specifically for off-road terrain, with a professional guide handling the driving throughout.

Two versions run from the same starting point, Mnar Castle, and split based on how much of the day you have. The half-day option is the tighter, faster version: pickup, roughly two hours of mountain trails and forest tracks with stops for photos, a BBQ lunch cooked outdoors in nature, and a scenic drive back done in about four and a half hours. It’s built for travelers who want a genuine off-road adventure without giving up a full day of their trip.

The full-day version turns the same idea into something closer to a proper expedition. It starts with breakfast at Mnar Castle rather than a straight departure, adds a coffee break at a scenic mountain viewpoint, and routes through two specific, named destinations most Tangier itineraries never reach: a traditional sit-down lunch in the Moulay Abdeslam region, and an extended stop in the Bouhachem Natural Area a protected forest reserve known for its biodiversity and untouched landscape, not a generic “nature stop” but an actual place with a name and a reputation among people who know the region. At eight hours, it’s less an add-on to a Tangier trip and more a full day built entirely around the mountains.

Both versions run in a private vehicle up to four guests per Jimny, with an additional vehicle available for larger groups  and come with the same essentials: a professional driver-guide, fuel and vehicle costs covered, safety briefing before departure, and food included as part of the price. The terrain is real off-roading, not a scenic drive on paved roads, which is why both versions carry the same caution: not recommended for pregnant travelers or anyone with serious back problems, and comfortable closed shoes are treated as a requirement rather than a suggestion.

If you’re deciding between the two: the half-day is the adventure without the commitment enough off-roading and enough of a BBQ lunch to feel like a real excursion, done by early afternoon. The full-day is for travelers who want the mountains to be the entire day, not a few hours of it, with two genuinely distinct destinations (Moulay Abdeslam, Bouhachem) that the shorter version simply doesn’t have time to reach.

FAQs

FAQs - 4x4 Off-Road Tour

The full-day version adds breakfast at Mnar Castle, a coffee break, a stop at the named Bouhachem Natural Area (a protected forest reserve), and a sit-down traditional lunch in the Moulay Abdeslam region. The half-day version skips breakfast and the Bouhachem stop, and lunch is a BBQ cooked outdoors rather than at a named regional stop.

No both options are explicitly not recommended for pregnant travelers or guests with serious back problems, given the off-road terrain and vehicle movement involved.

Up to 4 guests per vehicle. If your group is larger, you'll need to book an additional vehicle.

Pricing is per vehicle (not per person), and the full-day version's attributes list it as a private experience this runs as your own private vehicle and guide, not a shared group tour.

The experience generally operates in most weather conditions, though routes may be adjusted for safety. Extreme conditions could affect specific stops.

No a professional driver/guide handles the vehicle throughout. This is a guided experience, not a self-drive rental.
